| "This 1895 photograph of Seal Harbor shows the Seaside Inn on the left and The Glencove rear center. The Seaside Inn was rebuilt from the Clement family homestead in 1869, enlarged in 1875 and torn down in 1964. Edwin Lynam and his son-in-law, Robert Campbell, put up the Glencove in 1883. Hansen, in his book of the town of Mount Desert, says that the Glencove “seems to have been a resort of professionals and intellectuals. Its guests sometimes included such a large portion of scholars that it was said that the bell hops were…construing Latin phrases.” The Glencove was sold and demolished in 1910 and the site became the village green."- MH - Mt.
