Photograph taken from 19 Clark Point Road, Southwest Harbor, Maine - The Southwest Motor Company - previously site of Moore's Garage Co. - site of the Post Office building in 2010. The automobile parked on Clark Point Road at the left was a c. 1962 Plymouth. The center car parked on the road was a 1960 Chevrolet. The one parked in the yard by the picket fence was a Dodge. “R.B. Jackson [Richard Benson Jackson (1893-1959)] is having a building erected on his lot lately purchased from P.L. Sargent. A filling station and other conveniences will be established there, and the extensive grounds opened as a parking place. This will be a great convenience to the customers of the Jackson market.” – The Ellsworth American, Wednesday, April 15, 1936.

The land in this photograph started out as part of the Clark family’s land, hence “Clark Point.” The upright building on the left of the photograph is the old Clark and Parker Store, the J.N. Mills Cash Store at the time this photograph was taken. Later it was the Manset Marine Supply store and, in 2012 the Oceanarium. This building is: 172 Clark Point Road – Tax Map 4 – Lot 30 – MHPC #405-0787. The wharf occupied by the long dormered building was originally Simeon “Sim” Holden Mayo’s boat shop. It was sold to Andrew Edward Parker in 1912. He ran a boat shop there until 1925 when it was sold to Chester Eben Clement for his boat shop. Researchers date this photograph at circa 1925 so it was probably still the property of Andrew Edward Parker. This building is: 168 Clark Point Road – Tax Map 4 – Lot 29.

The photograph was taken from Graycliff, the Eugene Stuart Bristol Cottage The large yacht in the harbor was Ernest Blaney Dane's auxiliary schooner, "Cone" The massive stone cottage that can be seen in the distance above the fore mast of "Cone" is "Wild Cliff," built by Rev. Alexander MacKay-Smith (1850-1911). Other visible buildings: Gray Rock, Joseph Allen Cottage Eyrie, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Cottage St. Jude's Episcopal Church Seal Harbor Congregational Church
