The wood building at the left is the Bradley Block which was located between the First National and Bar Harbor Banks of 2007. Just visible on the awning is a mortar and pestle sign for a druggist. The building just to the right of the white store is A.W. Bee, Stationer. The large hotel at right was the Rodick House. The freshly renovated Rodick House is garnished with new trees planted and braced on the lawn. There are board sidewalks at the edge of the dirt road which, in turn, is garnished with manure from the many carriage horses shown in the picture. The sign at front lefts says, "Berry Bros. - Boarding Hack and Livery Stable - Cottage Street - Single & Double Teams Furnished Short Notice" The sign at front right says, "Café - John Dean - Phila Caterer - Chicken Croquettes - Medicated (?) Chicken Consomme"

The sign probably says Tremont or Bass Harbor - 3 miles. The corner of the Elisha B. Crane house is visible on the left. The horses are standing in front of P.L. Sargent's Livery Stable on Clark Point Road. The first house beyond the livery stable was built about 1902 by William Wallace and sold to E.A. Lawler. Next beyond that, with dark shutters, is the house built by E.L. Higgins, on Maple Lane, in 1884. On the right, part of the Old Masonic Hall may be seen, followed by A.L. Gilley's Barber Shop, Dr. R.J. Lemont's Drug Store and residence, Stephen Harmon's General Store, and William J. Tower's residence.

Flying Mountain is in the foreground. Dog Mountain on the left and Robinson Mountain on the right appear in the background. "The house on the left was built by Rev. Oliver Fernald and in 1926 his daughter, Louise Fernald (later Mrs. Lynn M. Goulding) sold it to Miss Mary E. Dreier of New York who remodeled it and named it Valour House in memory of the band of the Jesuit settlement of 1813. The farmhouse on the right was built in the early 1800's. In 1842 it was remodeled and made into a two family dwelling for Eben and Daniel Fernald. The brothers lived there and worked the farm for many years." - Traditions and Records of Southwest Harbor and Somesville, Mount Desert Island, Maine by Mrs. Seth S. Thornton, p 138 and 9 - 1938. The house was later sold by Louise to the Dreiers. In 2007, the house on the left was owned by Mrs. Rhys Williams and the house on the right was still owned by the Dreier family.
