The sign probably says Tremont or Bass Harbor - 3 miles. The corner of the Elisha B. Crane house is visible on the left. The horses are standing in front of P.L. Sargent's Livery Stable on Clark Point Road. The first house beyond the livery stable was built about 1902 by William Wallace and sold to E.A. Lawler. Next beyond that, with dark shutters, is the house built by E.L. Higgins, on Maple Lane, in 1884. On the right, part of the Old Masonic Hall may be seen, followed by A.L. Gilley's Barber Shop, Dr. R.J. Lemont's Drug Store and residence, Stephen Harmon's General Store, and William J. Tower's residence.

Thornton, p. 126 - 1938. Ralph Stanley says that the Appalachian Mountain Club tents were stored in the sheds behind his house at 102-104 Clark Point Road in the 1930s. He remembers watching them hauled out of the sheds that later became his boat building shop, every Spring.

The boat on the left (#1 L 148) was owned by Carleton Barron Gilley (1921-2001) and was built by Paul Patton in Ellsworth. The boat in the middle (#1 M 551) is the 1st boat Ralph Warren Stanley (1929-2021) built for himself in 1951. At the time this photograph was taken in 1960 Charles “Charlie” Montriville Gilley (1924-2006), leaning against it, was the owner. The boat on the right (#1 L 256), built by Robert “Bobby” Farnsworth Rich at his Bass Harbor Boat Shop was owned by Harold Edward Alley (1924-2004) , shown in the photograph working on the boat. The factory wharf in the back with white sardine carrier visible was the Addison Packing Company.
