"Hiram Flye of Seal Cove was also a builder of ships. He would never allow his vessels to be named for living persons and he always kept the name a secret until the day of the launching. It was very exciting, when, at the launching, the bunting on which the name of the craft was hoisted. Mr. Flye built the "Northern Light," the "Light of the East" and many others." - Traditions and Records of Southwest Harbor and Somesville, Mount Desert Island, Maine by Mrs. Seth S. Thornton, p. 250 - 1938.
