"During World War II he was teaching a bunch of young fellas, one of whom was Morton Harper, to caulk. They were doing the deck of a dragger. They [the boys] tried to show him up. "Stan" said nothing, but soon they were sweating trying to keep up. "Stan" attributed his longevity to the liberal use of "Old Medford" Rum. He lived in Seal Cove and sometimes walked to work in Southwest Harbor via the Seal Cove Road, coming out [in those days] on Forest Avenue." - Ralph Stanley 09/26/07
Stan Mitchell was still caulking boats at Southwest Boat in 1945 at the age of 85.
