Eugene M. Norwood Square

Views of Eugene M. Norwood Square at the corner of Main Street and Seal Cove Road in Southwest Harbor. The square was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 28, 1923 in honor of Eugene Millard Norwood. Eugene Millard Norwood (1896-1918) was married on December 9, 1917 and enlisted for WWI on December 12, 1917. He was killed in action on October 28, 1918 while fighting in the 47-day Battle of the Argonne Forest, which lasted from September 26, 1918 to the Armistice on November 11, 1918. His body was never recovered.
